Boston Magazine: Tiger Mama

Opened in December 2015, Tiger Mama is Chef Tiffany Faison's homage to her travels in Southeast Asia. The restaurant features a vibrant decor, including a living wall growing herbs for the kitchen, two bars, and a knockout menu.

Just before it's opening I got to shoot this sneak preview dish for Boston Magazine. The duck marinated in ginger, garlic, scallions, fish sauce, and Shoaling wine, smoked for four hours, then fried.

Being a mixologist in a major city like Boston is no joke. I got to highlight a bunch of them a few years back for @edibleboston, and many described their painstaking creative process—and how closely tied it is with chefs’ creations. When cocktails first came onto the restaurant scene, many skewed high in sugar and/or alcohol, creating a divide between a meticulously crafted menu and saccharine beverages that didn’t match. But when chefs and bartenders realized they could work together to enhance diners’ entire experience, everything changed. As Markus Yao of @shojoboston put it, “Collaborating with the kitchen is absolutely necessary to make things different. The whole thing is about being a team.” You can read more about a look back on this shoot in my blog post (link in bio).

Looking back on this shoot for the @charleshotel makes me crave a vacation. If you do find yourself looking for a spot to stay in Cambridge, this classy spot has it all under one roof: three restaurants, a library, and even a spa to unwind.

The springtime budding trees on Comm Ave are a precious, short-lived vision of beauty. It’s hard to resist photographing them every year (that is, if you can dodge everyone else on the street that seems to be doing the same thing).

It’s #cincodemayo, which is the perfect excuse to head to a local spot like @lolitateqbars, order tacos and margaritas (my personal favorites), and let the Sunday scaries melt away.

Back in 2014, @edibleboston put out its first-ever special edition Drink Issue, which provided me with a happy excuse to travel around the Boston area, photograph unique cocktails (and the creative faces behind them), and even do some sampling.⁠ ⁠ You can read the throwback article via the link in my bio.
